Nick Jurkowitz Successfully Defends Optometry Business in HIPAA Case

Nick Jurkowitz successfully defended an optometry business against a claim tendered to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR) alleging that the optometry business was not in compliance with the Federal Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information and/or the Security Standards for the Protection of Electronic Protected Health Information (HIPAA). The complainant alleged that the optometry business impermissibly used protected health information (PHI) and thus failed to safeguard PHI. After a thorough review, OCR determined that no alleged violation of the Privacy Rule was substantiated, and the matter was closed without further action.
